Being a scardey cat – going to my first #brunchclub

.
It’s amazing how we can be so confident and kickass in some area’s of our lives and such a scardey cat in other area’s!

Walking into a new situation where you don’t know ANYONE is something that soooo many of us find so hard…

brunchclub

Having to push past my inner Scardey cat was required when deciding to go along to my first #brunchclub hosted at Loretta. I had to stop faffing about and just do it.

Why are things like this so scary sometimes?

Confirming my RSVP online initially…
I thought about it for many days first and then hovered over that button for like a whole 18 minutes, before finally just taking a breath and just hitting it (and tell myself just to make the commitment!).

Walking out my door the morning of #brunchclub, getting my butt into the car and driving to Loretta…
It would have been so easy to wimp out and head to the beach instead.

Actually getting out of the car, paying for parking (further commitment) and walking to Loretta…& then actually walking in the door and asking for ‘#brunchlub’!!!…
Walk, Fidget, smooth, re-adjust, breath, smile…
Ok…there they are..keep walking…breath…fidget…smile

Hi…#brunchclub?

Yes, excellent…

What on earth was I such a scardey cat for…getting there in whatever shape or form is so often always the hardest-hardest bit.

But, what I found was a fabulous long Loretta table laid out for all of us #brunchclub’ers and 5 stunning bloggers already sat at the table.

Georgina, Rhiana, Tallulah, Larissa & Bridget.

We were soon joined by Hannah, Dani, Jenna, Rochelle, Auie & Morgan.

I was comforted to know that many of us (including me):

• Had contemplated chickening out that morning and not coming…
Yup, we are all scardey cats at some point.

• Really dislike walking into a place by ourselves…

• Admitting that we often try and arrive early, so that we are first, so then people have to walk up to us…
Even though there is the awkwardness of being first and sitting alone, I know I would always prefer to be first.

I had some great conversations with the bloggers around me and found some fab new blogs to check out.

I really love how something like #brunchclub exposes you to Blogs that you may not have come across normally, that can pleasantly surprise you with how much you enjoy something of another genre.

It was a good chance to ask questions, talk about new things you are trying and network with other bloggers in your field of interest.  Exchange Business Cards if you have them…or on that note learn two great places to order your cards based on other bloggers experience Moo and Printing.com.

We ate some fabulous Loretta food, basked in the stunning decor and enjoyed exception service from our wait staff.  Would highly recommend Loretta for brunch again.

Overall it was just really cool to be amongst a group of talented Wellington based writers/bloggers, supporting each other.

I look forward to March’s #brunchclub, if your a Wellington based blogger, would you like to come along next time too? :-)

      Hi Sophie
It’s amazing isn’t it, that when we are honest with each other about the bits we find scary, that soooo often nearly everyone is feeling the same way.
So I’m kinda oddly comforted by the fact that you say you chickened out…(if that makes sense)…but I really hope you are able to come to the next one both for your own courage and also so I get to meet you also :-)

Have you been to one of the #brunchclub’s before?

      Hi Dani

Hopefully we get a chance to talk some more at the next one and move around the table a little.

It was an encouraging start to my year (& blogging year) to have so many of you talented writers around me!

Been meaning to say, I loved your dress! :-)

  3. OK, I’ll crick my neck and put on my big girl pants and see you for the next one (as long as I see it in time to join, for some reason FB seems to hate the idea of me having a social life at the moment)

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Hi Tasha

Big Girl pants – love it!
It so did feel like that, putting my big girl pants on.

Do hope you do come along to the next one so I can meet you, it’s great to have so many Wellington bloggers together encouraging one another.
Are you already joined to the #brunchclub group of FB?

Good on you and sounds like a fun event (and the food looks well worth it too!).

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Hi Sarah
Yes it was, I’m so glad I went.
If your looking to meet other bloggers and you would like to, you should come along next time :-)

How’s your ‘all kids at School’ day going? Even though I haven’t met you in person yet, I was so pleased for you this morning when I read that, even though I’m sure it all feels a bit strange for you too.

Well done for getting there! Sounds like it was a great and worthwhile time, I’m kinda regretting missing out now, have been meaning to get to Loretta for a while. I’m planning to be at next months, but I have a couple weekends away that month, so it’ll depend when it is. Either way, I’ll be at the #brunchclub soon enough!

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Hey Emma
Loretta was really nice too, would highly recommend it.

So great to read of more fabulous Wellington Bloggers like yourself who are hoping to get to #brunchclub, means I have so many more of you to meet! :-)

Have you been to one before?

I so know how you feel – I was TERRIFIED the first time i went to brunch club, and to a couple of other meet ups. But now I’m so glad I went!

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Hi Lena

      Oh, wow, terrified!
I’m so impressed then, that you also must have pushed through and made it there :-)

Wouldn’t it be great if we could have known in hindsight that all-will-be-OK.
Hopefully at least when we can talk about the things that scare us and others can read it, and can feel encouraged too (& to come to #brunchclub ;-)).

Is there a step that you find the MOST terrifying when you go somewhere like that?

      Thanks
      WCx

PS: Hey, well done also being brave and putting yourself out there for Meagan’s Fat Girls Shouldn’t Wear Stripes – Fearless Style project.
You looked stunning and a great project to be part of!

      • Lena says:

Terrified might have been a bit dramatic, but I was definitely nervous. I was worried they wouldn’t think i fitted in because I had only been blogging for about a month. It’s so good to know that other people feel the same way about that sort of thing. Once I’m somewhere and getting on well with people it’s like a weight lifts off me! Thanks for that about the shoot with Meagan – god I was so scared about that too, but again, glad I did it!

        • Wellington Chic says:

As I was replying to you before, I was thinking about ‘WHAT’ was I actually so scared of?
…and what you said was pretty much exactly that.

That I would be ‘such a newbie’ (not blogging for long either)…that I am ‘fluking my way along’…and eveyone else would be ‘pro’s’ at it…and that I would be Old! Ha!

So, like you it was about ‘fitting’…
But I was so encouraged from going, (like you said, the weight lifts off) and everyone was a quite different stages with their blogs, many different genre’s also…

I was probably still the oldest, but hey I can live with that :-)

Were you more nervous about the Photo’s being splashed across the blogishphere, or was going to the actual shoot scarier?

          • Lena says:

I was nervous that people would say mean things, or that I would look ugly or stupid – but the repose has been great. The shoot was nice and pretty relaxed, it was just Meagan and I down by the marina so it felt like hanging out with a friend – which it was.

          • Wellington Chic says:

So glad you have had a great response from people on your shoot.

Hope it encourages you even more with things like that going forward :-)

            Yay!

  7. […] Pip, Rhiana and Rochelle have also posted about the brunch. […]

  8. Brunch club?!?!? I NEED this in my life. Any exscuse to go out for brunch!

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Thanks

  10. Go you!!! You’ve totally inspired me to go along here in Auckland …. and I’ll be just as scared as you before hand haha

    • Wellington Chic says:

      Hi Caitlin

That so awesome, happy to inspire.

Will it be your first #brunchclub you have been to in Auckland?
